Was Enos ever baptized?
Question
Gramps,
We have a friend who is taking the discussions. His assignment last week was to read Enos. He had an interesting question. He asked if Enos was ever baptized.

Answer
Kim,
We don’t have an explicit account of Enos getting baptized, but there is enough to assume that he got baptized.
We read that the trigger for Enos’s prayer was hearing the word of God being preached and believing it enough to try to pray. Was he baptized before he prayed? It’s quite possible, all the pieces are there for it to happen. Enos prayed for forgiveness of sin, which generally is something that a person does after they have converted and are trying to endure.
It’s also possible that this prayer was his conversion to the Lord. In which case Enos would have gone to be baptized shortly thereafter.

The Book of Mormon talks about baptism a great deal. But except for a few notables it doesn’t give the accounts of very many individuals being baptized (although it mentions large groups of people being baptized). What makes it a bit murky is that we don’t have authoritative records about the practice of baptism under the Mosaic law in the Middle East at that time. Lehi had a vision of Christ’s baptism, and Nephi wrote at great length about that, and about the commandment for all men to be baptized, but nothing is mentioned about his actual baptism, or of anyone in his family.
