Will I be kept out of the Celestial Kingdom because of an unfaithful spouse?

Dear Gramps,

After 37 years of marriage, my husband is no longer a member of the Mormon Church. My life is quickly passing away. Do I now wait and hope and pray for maybe being sealed again as an eternal family, or is it my obligation to get myself sealed to a worthy priesthood holder in this life because I have the knowledge that this is the only way that we will be in the celestial kingdom. I don’t want to lose my children that are sealed to me and never see them again for eternity. If we actually die before everything becomes resolved, am I assigned to a worthy priesthood holder?

Dear Angel,

Just a couple of points to consider- The celestial kingdom is open to all those who are baptized members of the Lord’s church and who are true and faithful to the covenants that they make at baptism. Also, all children who die before the age of accountability are heirs of the celestial kingdom. (See D&C 137:10)

Secondly, the Lord’s promises are sure to all those who keep the covenants that they have made in the Lord’s holy house. The failure of a spouse to keep his or her covenants in no way invalidates the blessings promised to the faithful party. In the Lord’s own time all things will be made right. There is no need to fear, we only must trust in the loving kindness and in the justice and mercy of our Father in Heaven.
